We are please to share news of a new book by Professor Saleem Ali, a former UME Faculty Member from the Institute for Sustainable Development.

MIT Press has just published his new edited volume titled “Peace Parks: Conservation and Conflict Resolution.”  The
book has received cover endorsements from E.O. Wilson and George Schaller as well as from the executive director of the United Nations Environment Program, Achim Steiner.  This is the first book of its kind to consider the instrumental use of environmental factors in resolving international conflicts.  It also includes chapters on very contemporary cases such as the Mesopotamian marshlands between Iraq and Iran, and the prospects of a peace park there as well as between Afghanistan and its neighbors. the Middle East is also discussed.
